Week 5

This week we walked about figure/ground, framing and hierarchy. Figure/ground relationships shape the visual perception. The negative and positive spces can change depending on the figure itself.
- Figure/ground adds energy to an image, shifts direction and impact
- What is left out is built in
- Time based mediums -> books, balance
- If shape is darker it becomes more powerful when accompanied by other elements
- Three types of figure; stable, reversable, ambiguous

Secondly, framing brings attention to work, cropping, borders margins and captions. Margin is additional space.
- Image and text together draw attention to a certain point; can be dominant or subordinant, it also isolates part of an image

Thirdly, hierarchy is the order of importance within a social group or in a body of text. Everywhere in the world there is order such as in the army, in families, etc.
